I do NOT believe Walt was going to off Mike anyway. I think he respected Mike, and that is part of the reason he went to help Mike make his getaway.
Walt knew that Mike wasn't going to talk, but he was suspect about the other 9. What drove Walt to shoot him was his urge of rage after being so insulted.

Yeah. I think Walt probably took Mike's gun just to protect himself, in case Mike planned to kill him. Once Mike, though, pointed out what an idiot Walt has been and how he completely screwed up a good thing (Walt really doesn't seem to be able to see this about himself), then he flipped out and shot Mike's ass. It's really showing the decline of both Walt's morality as well as his logic/reason. He was a scientist. He was cool and calculated. Now, though, he can't even handle to hear someone give him the truth without flipping out, getting emotional, and doing something stupid.
I do agree with the other person who said that it's sometimes hard to know when Walt is being just crazy and when he's crazy like a fox. This character trait, though, has always been a part of him. Think back to his insane ass ramming of the two thugs with the Aztec just as Jesse was about to try to kill them.
