The fans have been unfairly accused and unjustly convicted ... if that's not a fact, it's certainly the opinion of many who actually attended the game and witnessed the situation.
Winston's voice is the loudest at the moment. And, no doubt, the notion that a bunch of Midwestern clod-kickers lack class and sportsmanship will permeate the common consciousness for awhile ... as incorrect as that perception is.
However (and I admit that this is a bit of a stretch), there's also a strong subtext to this episode that Winston's comments underscore and that is, "Cassel sucks". In fact, Cassel sucks so bad that his own home field fans were glad to see him go down and applauded when it happened. It isn't as blatant or as obvious as the point Winston tried to make by bashing Kansas City's mean, insensitive, low-brow fans, but it's equally powerful and, over time, may contribute to the general realization that Cassel really is that horrible. In that sense, Winston isn't doing Cassel any favors.
