A few years ago, I was at a Subway and the guy who did the veggie part of the sandwich was black. He said something to the effect of "Yo, what do you want on this sandwich?" I was trying to be colloquial in return, but being as painfully white as I am, the best I came up with was "Yeah...hook me up with some lettuce, tomatoes..."
The dude bursts out laughing and goes "Yeah man, I'll HOOK YOU UP with some lettuce!" He told every other person working there (all also black) about what I said, and they were all dying. I wanted to ****ing kill myself. Needless to say, I didn't go back to that Subway for a couple of months.
