No advocate of BPA would say that you should take a generational talent at fullback over a great QB. That's not what it means. Positional value is always taken into account.

When people talk about BPA, they mean a philosophy of picking the best player regardless of whether he plays a position of need for your team or not. A good drafted player will be with your team for years. The NFL is volatile, and three years down the road your team could look entirely different and have very different needs. However, you'll likely still have that player you drafted. So it is rarely a good idea to sacrifice the long-term talent of your team in order to try to meet an immediate need.
