The market for RBs had dried up. Everyone that wanted one had already dealt for one or snagged one in the draft. He was committed to keeping one of them with Rodgers as his #2 RB so I offered him a 2nd rounder for either CJ or McCoy. He countered with a 2nd and Reed and said he'd rather keep McCoy. I said that was nuts, Reeds listed as an OLB but he's an excellent Sam linebacker. He's good in coverage and very strong at sealing the edge in run support. Guys like that were going for 100+ in FA and he needed another OLB badly after getting blown out of the water on the Rob Jackson bidding.
I said I'd send him Reed if I could get a replacement 4-3 backer for him (as those are cheaper/easier to find than 3-4 OLBs). Burnett was the only one he had that I liked and he countered by demanding a starting NT in return; I had Pouha so it worked out.
Yeah, I think I got the better of the deal, but with the market for RBs having gone soft, I'm not sure how he'd have done a hell of a lot better.
