I will be out there, I will yell my arse off, but I wouldn't put any chips on putting a two goal GD on Houston Wednesday.... Sucks....
I have not been a Vermes fan. Even as he was hoisting the US Open Cup and I was having some doubts about my deep seat belief that he will not win us a MLS cup. He simply does not prepare his teams adequately for post season. We beat Colorado last season but they were plagued with injuries. Still, we beat the defending champions to have a home game and one win to get to the championship. The team came out uninspired, flat, and disorganized. Yes, they'd had a great win in the rain a few days before which was over the top emotional and a let down was to be expected. But they were just zombies on the field.

Hopefully lessons learned. Apparently not. Something has gone terribly wrong when your team is putting rusty bench warmers with little or no playing time on the field to help your offense in a such a high profile game. It would have been wiser to be his usual rigid self and play for the one goal differential heading back to LSP.

No, he let's Kinnear call the shots, whines on national TV at half time, and then starts throwing desperate measures out when they most needed consistency and to hunker down...the crap he usually does during regular season when you have the luxury of taking chances.

The first game of the playoffs is NOT the time to throw caution to the wind and gamble.

I put this loss entirely on him. He was not prepared with adequate depth on the offense and when he needed to bolster the defense he instead decided to play players who'd not seen the field much the entire regular season.

And whatever he's doing to prepare his team on long layoffs is not working. They seem out of sorts and listless upon returning from most long breaks.

Also, whatever happened with Collin taking him off the field and then putting him in right before the playoffs was another mistake. I think since his return the defense has not looked in sync. Collin is my favorite player but he has not been able to return to his pre-benching form. I understand disciplining your player but whatever happened has caused lasting impact on the field. That is on Collin but also Vermes for not containing the damage and impact of the discipline TO Collin vs. let it disrupt the team.

Sigh. Ok, enough anger. Going back to my Cauldron inspired tranquility. No, it was not over when the Germans bombed Pearl Harbor.
