Alex Smith is tough, smart, efficient, and all class.

That earns respect.

I respect how he has handled himself each and every year, through all the adversity, the benchings, and the final benching last season while putting up highly efficient numbers.

But the bottom line is that he simply isn't a franchise QB capable of putting his team on his shoulders and carrying them to a championship.

As a fan that hasn't seen his team win a championship since '70, that just isn't acceptable.
