And your second paragraph is simply an ethics question. First of all, it is against the law. Secondly, just because you don't think it's wrong doesn't mean others don't. Frankly, I do think it's wrong. You just shouldn't take two things when you paid for one. At least that's my opinion.

No he didn't deprive anyone of anything. He was never going to buy that ticket. If the owner had had a guard outside that theater checking tickets, he just wouldn't have gone in. The owner made a cost conscious decision that it was cheaper to allow that kind of transgression than it was to police it. That's how much value the owner puts on it.
