A ride on his scooter landed Missouri quarterback Maty Mauk in jail Thursday. The freshman was arrested on suspicion of four charges, including leaving the scene of an accident, MU police Capt. Brian Weimer said.

At 12:17 a.m. MU police spotted Mauk make contact with two vehicles while driving his scooter east on Kentucky Blvd. — with two female passengers on board. Officers attempted to pull Mauk over, but he drove away, turning south on Curtis Ave. and also ran a stop sign, according to the incident report. The officers later found the scooter abandoned between two cars in a parking lot.

Through their investigation, the officers contacted Mauk and he turned himself into MU police headquarters at 11:18 a.m. and was arrested on suspicion of four misdemeanor charges: leaving the scene of a motor vehicle accident, resisting arrest by fleeing a vehicle, operating a vehicle in a reckless manner and failure to observe a traffic control device.

Mauk was transported to Boone County Jail where he posted $1,000 bond. The first two charges carried a $500 bond each. The two latter charges required only Mauk's signature for his release, Weimer said.

Mauk is the second Missouri quarterback arrested for leaving the scene of an accident in recent months. In May, redshirt freshman Corbin Berkstresser was arrested and charged with a misdemeanor for hitting a parked car with his truck and leaving the scene. He pleaded guilty and was sentenced to two years unsupervised probation and 20 hours of community service.

Mauk is MU's No. 3 quarterback behind starter James Franklin and Berkstresser and was slated to redshirt this season. The Kenton, Ohio, native set several national high school passing records during a decorated career at Kenton High School.

Team spokesman Chad Moller said MU is aware of the arrest and the situation will be addressed internally with no further comment.
