A static line jump is no guarantee either.
My BIL was medically discharged from 82nd Air Borne for compression fractures (plural) to his spine when his chute failed to completely open but he only augured in from about 300-350 ft. Had his chute failed to open at all he’d be paralyzed.
He's about an inch shorter now than he used to be too.
