Sylvester McCoy Wants To Be The Doctor Again
Actor hopes to reprise the role for 50th anniversary
Actor Sylvester McCoy only played The Doctor for two years, but his time at the controls of the Tardis has stayed with him.
So much so that he would love a chance to reprise his role on the modernized "Doctor Who" BBC series.
"I am a part of it, it hasn't ever gone away and I celebrate the 21st Century Doctors," McCoy said.
This year's festive outing, A Christmas Carol, airs on Christmas Day with Season 6 starring Matt Smith kicking off in the spring, but in 2013 the show will reach its milestone 50th anniversary. And according to McCoy, what fans want to see to celebrate the achievement is a multi-Doctor episode.
In the classic series, the multi-Doctor episodes were a chance to see how the current Doctor would interact with his predecessors in order to solve some kind of bizarre mystery, or defeat an opponent so menacing that it would take more than one Doctor to get the best of.
Why hasnt the series done a multi-Doctor story before now? Apparently, former showrunner Russell T. Davies wasnt a fan of the stories and made it a rule not to include them in his series. However, now that Steve Moffat has taken the reins and has re-incorporated a lot of classic mythology into the show, the chances of a multi-Doctor adventure seem a little more likely.
McCoy, though, wants to see more than a modern tale, he is hoping to see even those Doctors that are no longer with us make an appearance using the latest technology to re-create them.
"They've got such imaginations, they could do anything," he said. "Would I do it? Yes, I'd be delighted to. It would be fascinating with all the technology if they could bring back Jon Pertwee and William Hartnell.
This would rock, especially the last part.
