From a shirt perspective, I would start with a few basics since you are going to need to completely revamp your wardrobe following your weight loss.

Go to J Crew or Gap and get a handful of solid long sleeve t-shirts. Go to Express and get three solid button downs; white, black, and one that matches your eye color. You can wear these with anything from jeans and casual shoes (but don't wear tennis shoes) to a suit and tie. You can start to mix in less generic styles later as money allows, but start with these basics.

For pants, go to Banana Republic and get a couple of pairs of slacks. I don't like khakis much, so I would recommend finding some of the dry clean only styles with the nice linings inside. They're going to run $100-$150, but they last forever and can periodically be found on sale for half that. (Khaki pants don't tend to age well from a construction standpoint, show dirt/stains, and really aren't as versatile as a lot of guys think, so they wind up looking like dorks because they pair them with something gray or black.) One light gray and one charcoal gray pair of dress pants will go a long way.

If you need suits, Banana Republic is good for those, too. Just don't wear your suit pants when you aren't wearing your jacket, or you will wind up having a suit that doesn't quite match over time.
