I think it's safe to say the market for getting your news over the TV is going to keep dwindling over time. ESPN has done things to try and hold onto market share that many of us don't like and it's probably starting to hurt them a bit.
I'd be willing to bet their web ratings and watchespn are growing rapidly.
Tons of people have pointed it out but competition has increased and ESPN has lost talent to other networks. For a long time they were the sole provider of non-NFL M-F sports which had to have made it ridiculously cheap to get the contracts. Other than NBA on TNT and huge events (Olympics, Championship events) they were the only person buying.
