He went on and on like this for a while until finally I had to ask the question.

“Carl, if you think so much of Trent Green — if you believe he’s the best quarterback you have — then why are you trading him in the first place?”

He paused for a minute. And then he said this very slowly:

“There you are talking about my head coach,” he said.

And there you have it.

“Herm (Edwards) would like for us to see what kind of quarterback Brodie Croyle can be,” he continued. “And he wants to see that sooner rather than later. I’m not disagreeing with that at all. He wants to get younger. He wants a fresh start. Trent understands this, too. We talk every week.””
Very simple, for the n00bs, Carl decides who to hire as HC and he trusts that person. He trusts them with personel, assistants, draft picks, etc. He trusts THEM to make the choices.

Peterson projects the image he thinks he needs to have so he can put a winning team on the field year after year, but that's not who he is. It's not how Arrowhead operates. It's not how KC makes their decisions.

The Pats have been winning super bowls like that angry blue puppet eats cookies, and frankly, they copied Peterson.

The Pats are cheap, they're not afraid to run with and start depth, and they refuse to pay insane money to retain anyone. No matter how talented.

They're just better at being Carl than Carl...

Denver rookie QB John Elway, on Jack Lambert, after Lambert and the Steelers knocked Elway out of his first game as a pro (1983).
