SMAUG!

Peter Jackson should be directing Star Wars, not that hack Abrams.

Maybe I just had low expectations after An Unexpected Journey , but I left The Desolation of Smaug thoroughly satisfied and enjoyed it probably the most of all of the series.

All 3 of the original LotRs were spectacular, but I found they had parts that dragged on, and the pace was a little slow at points.

I know others have mentioned this about TDoS, but for me, I really didn't get that dragging feeling. Maybe, you could have argued that once they got smuggled into the watertown.

Also, I totally wouldn't have minded if they spent a bit longer inside the Wood Elves kingdom- perhaps that'll be something for the extended cut when it's out on BR.

For the record, Lee Pace absolutely killed it with his portrayal of the Elf King. He's also starring in the upcoming Guardians of the Galaxy.
