Actually if you think about it.
We'd be pretty good with a cover 2. We have the speed at LB already. Wesley had a shitload of interceptions over the top which is what you do in the cover 2. Same with Knight... He's good over with over the top & always seems to be in the right place at the right time.

Warfield got his ints playing his zone in the flats (looking at the QB's eyes). Surtain got his looking at the while looking at the QB instead of playing his man also.

The key to a cover 2 is to get pressure on the QB to force quick throws & anticipate the int.

That's were a great DE would come in.
Notice TB has Rice, Chicago has Ogunleye and that other monster that lead the league in sacks. Indi has Mathis and Freeney... See the trend?

While Allen's a good pass rusher... we're not where we need to be when it comes to the pass rush in order to succesfully run the cover 2. Hicks needs to step aside in order for us to be successful at it.

Seeing us draft DE in the first round with the potential of Freeney, Merriman, or Ware would do wonders for our Defense.
