I can see that. I was kind of similar. My dad was not a hippie, but I used to drive him crazy at an early age asking questions about music. He always tells a story about me at maybe 5-6 years old bugging him to try to understand the difference between bass, rhythm, & lead guitars. He told me to just listen to the song and be quiet. My Dad used to tell me things like "I saw Hendrix in Davenport" and "I remember when I snuck your uncle into a Steppenwolf concert", as if to infer that nothing I ever did would be as cool as him.
