The following is an editorial by Jim Ogle, WIBW Channels General Manager:

This is a special time of the year for college basketball fans. The first weekend of "March Madness," particularly the first Thursday and Friday, are a basketball fan's dream. So many games. So many potential upsets.

My bracket is usually toast by the end of the day Friday.

If you join in via television, you are in for some big changes this year.

One of the NCAA's requirements was that EVERY game will be seen from beginning to end. Another requirement is that EVERY game airs from beginning to end with no cut away to a "better" game because Kansas or KSU is beating the pulp out of a first-round opponent.

To achieve that, CBS took on Turner Broadcasting as a partner. It brought three channels, TBS, TNT and TruTV, to meet the NCAA's demand.

But for fans used to watching KU or KSU on over-the-air television, it means you won't see either KU or KSU in either first game Thursday and Friday.

You have to be a cable or satellite subscriber of a more-than-basic package to get the games.

As you can imagine, we wanted CBS to have those games. It didn't get them. So a great over-the-air tradition ends with this tournament. For the 12% of the viewers in northeast Kansas who don't subscribe to cable or satellite, we share your disappointment.

The only way this can change is if the NCAA changes the rules on future years. The people who vote on those rules are the university presidents and chancellors and their athletic directors. Give them a call or drop them a line if you would like them to guarantee local schools are on local stations.
anybody know the email address and phone numbers of those people?
