Nah. I think three things are at play here.
1) He wants to finish his playing days on the field, not on the operating table. He worked hard to get back and we're throwing him a bone. Probably never gets back to KC.
2) He can impart some wisdom on the young guys down there, hopefully helping the young pitchers.
3) This is his launching pad to coaching. Work with the young guys almost in a player-coach capacity, retire at the end of the season and ease right into coaching in the org somewhere. We do him a solid by letting him play in AA, he sticks with this org to coach.
