Since he really didn't set a time frame, you could start with Arizona and Arizona State in the 70's leaving the WAC and making the PAC-8 the PAC-10.
Then you could look at Arkansas starting the exodus from the Southwest Conference in 1991 by joining the SEC about the same time as South Carolina joined after being an Independent for several years. (They were in the old ACC)
No matter how anyone may try to color it, Baylor, Texas, Texas Tech and Texas A&M switched conferences which really caused the breakup of the Southwest Conference.
