On defense, he's just a complete wreck. He really does just stand stone-still and hack whoever is in his vicinity.

He's young and defense can be taught (and easier than offense), but he's clearly not ready to start and is unlikely to be ready by next season. Our frontcourt will likely suck fairly badly next season.
