The Kansas City Chiefs are stronger at offensive tackle with top overall draft pick Eric Fisher under contract, but depth at guard took a hit on Saturday.

Jeff Allen was taken off the field during practice with a right shoulder injury, according to Adam Teicher of The Kansas City Star. Based on what he saw, Teicher believes Allen is set to "miss some time."

We'll wait for the team to weigh in, but Allen was a 13-game starter as a rookie last season after the Chiefs made him the 44th overall pick in the 2012 NFL Draft. He didn't grade out well by ProFootballFocus -- ranking 79th out of 81 qualifying guards -- but the Chiefs on the whole were a disaster last autumn.

Allen proved himself a versatile lineman this spring, working at guard and tackle in the absence of Branden Albert. Allen entered camp in a battle with Geoff Schwartz for the starting left guard spot, and his absence, for now, weakens a line that otherwise should be improved in 2013.
