You can get to 6, because NCAA by-laws require at least 5 teams to maintain a conference. That said, these are just ignorant hopes and wishes by mutards that were a little dismayed the B12 didn't break apart the last time. Texas doesn't want to go west. They like having their little fiefdom. They like having most of their games within driving distance for their fans. MU fans are just so preoccupied with envy of UT they can only wish for bad things to happen to it, and if it affects KU in the process, all the better.
In 10 years, who knows? But right now, nobody is looking to leave, let alone test the GOR, its just an outright stupid argument.
