The only thing I can really think of that someone on the internet had to reveal to me was after that early season 4 episode where Madrigal Electromotive was first mentioned to Hank, when someone on the web (AV Club forums, I think) remembered that Madrigal Electromotive was mentioned in small type on the Los Pollos Hermanos commercial cold-open from season 3.
Which is to say, I don't think there is a bunch of symbolism and motif work in older, pre-internet shows that flew over the heads of audiences. Breaking Bad has much, much more of that sort of thing than most shows, though.
