SPRINGFIELD, Mo. – A woman is charged with murdering her husband and son, and attempting to murder her daughter, by slipping automotive antifreeze into their beverages.
According to court documents, Diane Staudte’s husband, Mark Staudte, died in April 8,
2012 after experiencing sickness and seizures over several day period.
Then, records also indicate her 26-year old son Shawn Staudte died September 2, 2012. Diane reported her son also had flu-like symptoms as well as seizures.
Based on details available, the Greene County Medical Examiner’s office ended up ruling both Mark and Shawn died of natural causes.
Earlier this month, Staudte's daughter, Sarah, was brought to Cox South Hospital with a serious illness. However, nurses said Diane was acting suspiciously and inappropriately, and was cracking jokes and laughing. Hospital staff also reported Diane went on about an upcoming vacation to Florida, and stated she was going no matter how her daughter's situation turned out.

Doctors told investigators they believed Sarah had been poisoned.
On June 11th, police got an anonymous tip that Diane might be responsible for the homicides of her husband and son.
Officers brought her in for questioning, and she eventually admitted she poisoned all of them with antifreeze.
Prosecutors say she admitting to killing her husband over a three-day period, putting antifreeze in his Gatorade. Her reason, she claimed, was that she hated him. She claimed she killed her son Shawn over a two-day period, by putting the antifreeze in his soda pop. Her reasoning what that he was "worse than a pest." She also admitted to poisoning her daughter , likewise, by putting antifreeze in her soda over a four-day period. Her reasoning was that Sara would not get a job and she has school loans that had to be repaid.
Sarah remains in the hospital and is expected to live, though investigators say she could suffer long-term physical effects of the poisoning.
Diane told investigators she got the recipe for poisoning her family off the Internet.
She is being held in the Greene County Jail without bond.
