Someone else suggested Ft. Collins (I lived there for a while), and it really is a great place. You can base out of there instead of the Denver insanity and do trips up to RMNP as well as up the Poudre Canyon to see some great shit. Raft the Big Thompson or the Poudre as well. One of the cool things about Ft. Collins is that you can just drive up the Poudre Canyon and have your pick of fantastic hikes.

yeah, i made a couple day trips up there when i lived in boulder. i love ft. collins. i wish i would have gone up poudre canyon when i was there.
