Root crops are good choices because the root tubers can develop more easily. Potatoes develop well with better-shaped spuds, for instance. Carrots, beets, radishes, onion, garlic, kohlrabi, shallot, turnips are some others.
Squash, pumpkin, butternut squash, peas, cabbage, lettuce, okra, cucumber, lettuce, peas and tomato also like sandy soil but for some you will likely need to add some additional fertilizer.
Melons love sandy soil!
You will also want to start amending your soil with some good compost, usually in the fall so it can incorporate itself over the winter.
