Okay, so I grew up roller skating. Not just sidewalk skating or public sessions at the rink. I competed. I did art skating (think ice figure skating on wheels), speed skating, and even a little bit of roller hockey (locally). I was actually pretty good, received a lot of trophies, and made it to nationals once.

Anyway, that was 20-25 years ago. Now, I'm old and fat (although not as fat), and I think I've been on skates maybe 3-4 times in the last 10 years. The rink I grew up going to now has a roller derby team. I know it's growing in popularity, and I think I've got what it takes to do it. They're holding an open practice and informational meeting tonight, and I think I'm going to go. I'm hesitant, but I can't think of a reason why I shouldn't do it, so I'm sure it's just nerves. Can't hurt to go and find out what it's all about, right?
