This really isn't that different from an engineering firm saying that engineering schools aren't preparing their students to be professional engineers. Are colleges "minor leagues" for engineering companies, or are they institutions that are supposed to teach students the skills they need to be successful and earn a living practicing their crafts?

The Mavericks shouldn't have to teach players how to play in the NBA any more than Black and Veach should have to teach kids coming out of school how to work a slide rule.

NBA is just blaming CBB for their complete lack of discipline in the handling of talent.

Just like the NFL always giving talented players 'another chance' after breaking the rules.
