Tombstone, it doesn't matter where the colors are reproduced, the effect is the same be it on paper, plastic, metal or your screen. When you did Fish' experiment, the piece of paper didn't magically change the colors on your screen, it was still producing the same exact colors before you covered it up with said piece of paper.
The green/blue stripes are the same color and the pattern of colors
around them make your brain perceive them as totally different.
Your disbelief is, really, just evidence of how good that optical illusion is.
