Twilight is steeped in vampire mythology (and werewolves, too), and includes themes of teenage angst/love along with (Mormon) undertones about overcoming one's nature and chastity. Let the Right One In has none of that.
Yes, both movies have students befriending vampires, but the complications you mention are nothing alike.

Well, I never said they were completely similar, and I couldn't do such a thing, as you nicely show. But I think I'm still in the grid, though definitely an outlier, when I say that because of the similar genres, having similar ties to reality and society, themes and issues, that in some ways, there's a lot that is similar between them.
Being more "adult" because of increased blood/violence and having the too-often assumed sophistication stamp of approval due to its foreign place of birth isn't going to cut it for making a movie great or vastly better than the teenage bloodless, Hollywood blockbuster.
