Sure, it's possible that you can strike gold with a rookie QB who requires no coaching or mentoring or assistance in making the adjustment to the NFL, but ... wow ... unlikely would be an understatement.
Let's be realistic for a moment. It makes far more sense to install a coach who can help a young guy develop ... regardless of his initial talent level or skill ... than simply hope that we hit on a Manning.

Romeo should be fired because he's a terrible head coach, not because there are far better QB gurus for Geno Smith to learn from.
If Romeo didn't suck as much as he did, I would be perfectly fine with him being the guy.
