Finally decided to spend some time in the Recon class. I’d dabbled in it a bit before, but probably only a few matches. I must say, it’s a pretty fun class. I didn’t play it as a ‘sniper’ etc, but rather tons of spotting, spawn points, T-UGS stuff near captured flags etc. Don’t get me wrong, there were times I’d sit at a choke point and pick guys off, but I was moving fairly regularly from cover to cover.

Finally unlocked the SOFLAM, and I’m very close to unlocked the UAV (for some reason I can’t wait to use this). There were 2 or 3 games on the big maps where I had a good place for the SOFLAM….and someone on my squad/team must have had a Javelin, because we raped all kinds of shit. I think I only had like 2 kills and 0 deaths, but got a ton of points from vehicle kills and spotting. Pretty fun.

Style of play is definitely different if you play a true recon role. Don’t get killed. Spot, spot spot. Place Spawn beacons in good locations etc. Up until this point, I played primarily Support class, but I have 5 service stars for the class, and have unlocked everything for it. So going from tagging along with squadmates suppressing fire and replenishing ammo, C4-ing tanks etc to Recon was completely different. I made slow, deliberate movements, cover to cover, spotted everything that moved including aircraft and tanks etc. and if I had an opportunity to take out an enemy or two, I’d take it. It was nice being able to put a guy down with one shot….two at the max. Had a couple “hell yeah” kind of shots from a pretty good distance (for me, at least).

Overall, a really fun class if you play it correctly and are in the right mindset, and don’t just sit in one spot camping for sniper kills. It’t not a “Sniper” class, it’s Recon damnit. My first few games I was still sort of rushing around like I usually would do; but after a few more games, I got into a groove in terms of pace of play, how close to get to the action etc.

….still loving this game.
