That may be so, but that wasn't my argument. My argument was that they do, indeed, have options. Let me put it this way. If ESPN came down with a 50 million per school per year option for 16 teams across the country to form the "mother-of-all-super conferences", all of those teams would listen, I don't care how stable the conference is. Having options is not the same as exercising options, and that's my point.

First of all, the PAC went hunting a year after Missouri indicated they would like to be B!G. The next year, the B!G announced it wanted to expand and Missouri thought they would be that school and openly solicited it. People suspected the PAC wanted to expand, they just didn't yet realize how much. Once the B!G made its Mizzou intentions known, CU bolted for the PAC and the PAC wanted the Texas and Oklahoma schools as well. So, they know two conference members are gone, and the PAC overtures have made everyone nervous. So, of course, you listen. Then, A&M said they didn't want to go to the PAC and started talking with the SEC. Its hard to put that shit storm on the shoulders of one school when you have three conferences talking to various members.

Well, as we know, realignment isn't about "much else" other than football. To be fair, they have a pretty decent baseball team. Certainly WVU was miffed that the ACC didn't select them, like FSU wanted, and probably made a mistake going with two basketball schools, time will tell. There were rumors the SEC also considered them, and if the SEC motivations were about the football product alone, they probably would have taken them. But the SEC wants a TV network and for that, they need viewers. Missouri has them, WVU doesn't. I know Mizzou fans may not like to be reminded about that, but that's the reason Missouri was attractive. it was their state TV markets, not the on field success (or lack thereof) of the football program.

I suppose it could be a fight between the ACC and B12 if it comes to that, but I think the ACC has been seriously out maneuvered in that regard. I'm not so sure how inevitable everything is, though. I think the SEC will eventually go to 16, because 14 is just an ugly number. I don't know that the others will follow right away unless they change the rules an allow a conference semi finals to the CCG. If that occurs, then the race will be on and the ACC leftovers will merge with the Big East and try to hold onto some sort of basketball reputation.
