This writer is ignorant. His 2-year term as chair and 5-year term as member ended with the conclusion of the meeting, which had been planned long before this realignment drama. He could not continue as chair even if they wanted to. He could have been reappointed by the governor if the governor wanted to, but the governor usually wants to get their own political friends and allies in, and the new guy is a former speaker of the FL house.
Also, its an unpaid volunteer gig and these guys are busy, they usually don't want to serve more than 1 or 2 5-year terms anyway. Chairmen usually like to go out with a bang, not step down and continue to serve as a mere member when their 2-year chairmanship ends.
Big picture, you don't go on "fact-finding missions" or urge the board to really examine the costs and benefits of moving to the Big 12 if it isn't going to happen or if Haggard went rogue. Haggard did say the board was unanimous in their interest, the FSU president acted yesterday like he was pleading to the whole board to be careful and think it through. How often do you shop around for a new car or go on a date if you aren't thinking about buying a new car or getting a divorce?
