The idea that the NFL, a Team, or even a Player cannot make 2 helmets "safe" per year is obviously a flawed theory/idea/statement.

And I bet the NFL's Head, Neck and Spine guy said that two helmets were fine as long as they were both fitted to that player, and identical in safety features, at least privately, but stated exactly what the NFL told him to say publicly.

I personally believe that NFL should not be able to mandate that players cannot change helmets. The NFL and the NFLPA should agree on what safety standards must be met in regards to helmets, and the players and teams should then be able to choose what helmets they wear for games.

What if a player makes a position change, like say Tamba Hali. I know he changed during the off-season, but what if he had changed during the season. A player on the defensive line may favor the older style helmets because they weigh more, but when switching to linebacker they prefer the new helmets because they weigh less, or make it easier to turn the head left and right. Why in the hell should the NFL be able to say no to the helmet change, as long as the helmet is fitted to the player and meets safety guidelines?

On a side-note, I cannot stand Roger Goodell.

They are just doing some CYA. The NFL does not want to be responsible for more player health issues. Actual player safety means nothing to the NFL, just profits. It is the NFLPA and it's members that are truly concerned with player safety. Here is the Forbes list for teams worth and profit. And the NFL profits from every team, even Detroit, which has lost money each of the last four years. Forbes NFL Teams Value and Profit
