The moral is that you don't say anything to anyone in a public arena, particularly a place of employment. It is irrelevant if you are "kidding around". People take this sh*t seriously now and it has nothing to do with 911, but rather the history of "work-related deaths/threats"
I haven't worked in an office building in the past 15 years that didn't have some sort of security measure- a fucking card to get into the building, the same card to get past the elevator, into your own floor, into your own hallway, into your own area, meeting room, etc...
Your friend might be intelligent, but he wasn't smart.
I do hope the best for him. He should get the best lawyer he can find and use friends such as yourself to tell the court that his statement was blown out of proportion and taken out of context. Unfortunately, with all the nuthooks out there today, your testimony may not be enough to salvage what was already said.
