I wouldn't be surprised if it happened on the initial contact. I broke mine by absorbing a pretty big hit from the same odd angle. If he had squared up he would have probably gotten leveled though.
I'm actually pretty impressed with how the little weirdo handled himself. He's obviously not Ryan or Clemens standing on the mound but he stepped up and moved forward instead of running like a little bitch.
