Yeah going heavy on enchanting/smithing can really unbalance the game. I won't ever have the best leveled gear because I only use stuff that fits my build from RP perspective. I use light armor vs. heavy for starters and since i am a Stormcloak sympathizer, my character refuses to use anything Elven or Glass. And as I mentioned before, my character doesn't like magic or magic users, so not only I am not enchanting stuff, I am not using anything that I find that is enchanted either. I use an amulet of Stendarr but that's because he considers it divine blessing rather than "magic".

I like your hardcore roleplay style. I might do the same as an Imperial agent/assassin at some point.
