The Desert Eagle .44 Magnum used to be my favorite handgun; it puts BIG holes in paper
The FN 57 took its place at the top spot. That thing is like shooting a frickin' laser pistol. The round simply hits
exactly where you were aiming. That's at 10, 20, 50,
100 yards.
It feels like a waterpistol at first; definitely a strange fit in the hand. The rounds look like "min-AR" ammunition. This makes the grip wider than most pistols.
Due to the long rounds and how "hot" they fire (incredible fps), your first trigger pull is a surprise. You expect quite a kick, but instead there is none. A HUGE report, but no noticeable kick. It is less, IMO, than even a .22 (I've got a nice Walther P22; the FN kick is equivalent/less than that!) This is due, in part, to the spring placement: on the barrel, rather than on a rod. This brings the recoil straight back, with no barrel rise. It is a phenomenal piece of engineering.
Only drawback to this weapon is price. The pistol weighs in at $1100. The ammunition is pricey, to say the least. If you have an AR and bemoan the prices for ammo for that platform, wait 'til you see what the 5.7x28 runs!
Still, the FN 57 is a thing of beauty; the best-engineered handgun I have ever had the privilege to use.
