How's that different from, say, Lawrence Phillips? Phillips would've killed his girl if he had a gun in his hand instead of a knife when they had their huge falling out. All he had was a knife, so he stabbed her.
Had Phillips hit her aorta when he stabbed her, would you agree that he's just a killer at that point?
It sucks, but this is the way this has to be viewed at this point.

I agree with the bold, and we're likely dancing in semantic circles. "Cold-blooded killer," to me, carries connotations of the action being calculated, and I highly doubt this was the case.
Like I said, though, if we later learn that they argued, and then he left to get the gun, I'll change my stance. At present, I view him only as a deranged, sick individual who caused a lot of grief on his way out.
