Here is how the double switch works. Let's say you have an inning where the pitcher is coming up to bat. You can just do a pinch hitter and have a new pitcher come in the next inning, or you can double switch. Let's say your second baseman bats 8th. What you can do is have the guy pinch hitting for the pitcher play second base, thus switching spots in the batting order with the pitcher, so the pitcher will bat 8th (later on in the game) and the second baseman will bat 9th for the remainder of the game.
