As for the plan: A trained SRO is fine. Preferably off-duty or retired cops. If not, then the training needs to be of the highest standards. Teachers: an emphatic no. Just plain stupid. Go ahead and throw in metal detectors at the door. That's fine, if there's a budget for it. Improving mental health screening is fine. But background checks need to be improved across the board. Training at gun stores needs to be improved. (I've seen two people buy guns while intoxicated. And both times were at a large gun retailer.) It's common sense. And there needs to be an honest dialogue. One that isn't driven by gun makers' avarice cloaked under the veil of the 2nd amendment. JMHO
I agree with all of this EXCEPT your objection to teachers being allowed to go through training and then carrying. I find it ridiculous and somewhat idiotic that you think teachers somehow can't handle it. The idea that a cop or ex-military somehow has a magic ability to handle a gun that transcends regular people is just plain stupid. Do you know how LITTLE training cops often get in regards to firearms?

I have no problem with most of the rest of your post except that metal detectors are almost useless , a giant pain in the ass and an unneeded expense.

Your blanket objection to teachers being allowed to carry boggles my mind.
