When I was a kid, I read an Encyclopedia Brown where Bugs Meany claimed to have found a bunch of ambergris. However, Encyclopedia Brown proved that he was lying because he said that he found it while he was scuba diving and it was underwater at the time. EB knew that ambergris floats, so therefore the story didn't fit.
I wasn't able to solve that mystery with EB, because I didn't know this fact about ambergris.
