That switch was more of the genius ambiguity of this show. [Much like the French woman saying "xxx was my child." and leaving people swearing she said she had a son, when in fact xxx might not even be human, or any living being].
My take was that Sun was ashamed to say she was planning to leave him and said it in English in hopes that;
he wouldn't understand her confession, but she still got it off her chest,
or
he WOULD understand her, and it would reveal a secret HE'D been hiding from her.
And it's written so that that is an altogether reasonable interpretation, but so are a number of others.
