I suspect these dodo are even harder to find in the wild, after last week's win.

Living deep in the SEC's footprint, my experience is that we have earned a lot of respect from fans, at least in this area. The idea was that a top 4 or so team coming over from the Big 12 would be a bottom feeder in the SEC. I think we are right where we expected to be, middle of the road in the conference in year two. We nearly beat Georgia last year, beat them in their house this year, and we took Florida to the last play in their house last year.

The feeling around here is much the same as it is with our fans, this is nice and will help recruiting, to be a credible SEC football program, not just a member of the conference. Are we realistically going to beat South Carolina or whomever wins the west? Probably not, and of course not.

But we're not only here, we are showing we belong here. And we can build from that.
Fans are myopic, SEC fans are no different. They assume b/c the SEC is the best league in the country it means that all their bottom feeders would finish in the top half of other leagues. Last year was a weird year w/ the six best teams in the league being so good that they would have contended for the Big XII, PAC 12, ACC, & Big East. That is not to say they would have all won all those leagues but they were good enough.

That is an anomaly. Usually it's more like our #1 is better than your #1, #2 > your #2 or #1, #3 > your #3 or #2, and so forth. And even then it's more like we'd go 6-4 or 7-3 head to head in those matchups. Not that the 6th or 7th best team would necessarily beat the 2nd best Big 12 team for example.

So voila they are shocked when MU proves to be competent when healthy. Well, I'd submit that the Big 12 has been a very good football league for years and MU's ability to compete in that league should have been evidence enough that this was possible. The assumptions that we were the second coming of Kentucky football were not based in reality. We're not going to win the league but we won't embarrass ourselves either most years.

Far too many simpletons that are close minded and unwilling to just follow the evidence.
