He's not an especially talented vocalist, no. The vocals are the weakest part of the album (both instrumentally and conceptually), but they don't detract from anything for me, not really. They are competent black metal vocals, nothing more.
Anyway, I kind of talked about this already in this thread, but what makes the album stand out is not that it is post-rock with black metal vocals, but that it is black metal with a few tweaks (notably the prevalence of major scale), and those tweaks end up demonstrating the warmth and glow -- akin to post-rock -- that has always been so near to the coldness and harshness of black metal.
What's really going to suck is the next two year's worth of major scale black metal ripoff albums.
