no way Smith gets a contract that small.
It's another way the Smith trade could cost us big.
Smith plays average this year but it's contributed to being on a new team,new scheme and new players etc.
Next year Smith plays average until the final few games. He has a really good 2 or 3 games to finish the season and everyone talks about how they team has now settled in etc and this is the "real" thing.
Alex Smith's contract is now up ... do you really think they can/will not give him a new contract based on those last 2/3 games instead of the rest of the average ones?
boom ... 6 years/60 million
We as much as we traded for Smith the only way(s) we get a franchise QB is if:
1. Smith is a franchise QB
2. we get lucky with a low round guy (ie Bray etc)
either is a long shot imo
