We've done something the same way for so long with TV remotes, pressing power buttons etc that I think it's a nice change of pace to have something different. Kinect is really cool you definetly notice the wider angle and the ability to see your fist opening and closing or your eyebrows going up and down. I could totally see where somebody that is using the XBox One as M$ intended (for watching everything, not just playing games) would think the voice control is convenient.
For me, I press the power button on my controller and then hit Start. Because the PS3 defaults to the game I'm currently playing. I actually navigate the system menu once or twice a WEEK.
