I saw Sugar Ray perform live at Six Flags a couple years ago. Actually, they put on a decent concert, and they did perform some of their early metal stuff. One song in particular I remember (wasn't thrash, but it was still pretty damn heavy, almost speed metal) was about an old car that Mark McGrath used to own, as I recall. Folks hear songs like "Every Morning" (which is practically boy band pop) and assume that's all they do, but they are one of the more variagated bands out there, and some of it definitely ventures into the metal category.
